User Reviews

Let's see. The other reviews have said a lot already, we went based on those. The burgers are clearly hand-made and good, the single order of fries is enough for 2 people to get well-stuffed, and the drinks are limited to cans of Shasta and bottled water. They have a couple little tables out under a tent in the parking lot, and there's cardboard boxes nearby for trash cans. I wouldn't call that atmosphere.... but the waitress who happened to find us was nice. They do ask that you call in your order ahead, but we just went and it wasn't a problem. For 2 mama burgers, one order fries, a bottled water and a soda was $45. I would go again in the spirit of supporting a truly indie local place.

Here’s all you need to know: THIS PLACE IS STILL THE BEST. Absolutely stellar char-broiled burgers and wonderful service. Please support this lovely family.

Burgers are fantastic as always. Unfortunately, they are only open 2 days a week, Friday and Saturday from 11-5 only have mama and papa burgers and fries on the menu. Have to call orders in and pick up. You can't eat inside. They have a couple tables set up outside.

Always great burgers and best fries ever. They have figured out how to make it work for them after covid. Too many other good eat places have closed due to covid. They only do take out right now, which is fine with me. Great job, George and his family. Best to you all, and thank you for keeping those delicious fries and burgers cooking!!!

The environment was very classic as well as the food. Mama-burger is the right side for me and the taste was good... but can't say outstanding.. Fish and chips was ordered too according to some comments. Fish is nice but chips weren't attractive to me. (not hot enough, not crispy at all). Milkshake was definitely a must try item as it's get the rich flavor of chocolate and good mix of milk. However, the portion and price is not for one but three.

If you've lived in the East Bay for any length of time, I don't need to tell you about Val's reputation and the legendary full-pound Papa Burger and malts and shakes. And I'm pretty sure I have posted reviews in the past. But the last couple of years have hit small businesses hard, and Val's was also closed for some time. So I was thrilled to see the open sign passing by, and made a detour to visit. It is not back to full operation, only open 11 to 5 on Fridays and Saturdays, and only burgers, fries, and shakes - to go. It is old school, as always, call to place orders, cash only, brought out to your car. (as of this writing Sep 2022). I was saddened to see patrons pull up, read the sign then leave 😥 I get it... you can go down the road to Nations or some other chain burger joint, and they're decent. But you will not find a burger to match. But I was also pleased to see some kindred spirit patrons stick around. I am not even sure Val's wants or can handle more business right now, but I hope enough of us can rally to help Val's survive and hopefully thrive again. Please do go out of your way to detour and give them your business.

Best burgers in the Bay Area. Been coming here since I was a kid. I hope this place stays around forever. Great milkshakes also.

1950s diner known for their delicious burgers. We also ordered some of their incredible ice cream sodas Mmmm They also have dinner entrees: Shrimp, steaks and chicken. Go Check them out ASAP.
