This is a nice place to stop in and have a BITE to eat. A friend recommended this place for some comfort food. When i walked in, the atmosphere was very peaceful and nice. They had good music playing in the background. I wanted to try the Ribs that they had on the menu, but they were not available. So i ordered a burger with fries. This was a pretty dam big burger and was dam GOOD!! I was only able to eat half of it and took the other half with me. I must say that when I'm passing through again, I know where I'll be stopping by to eat! Please have those ribs available. Thank you for your hospitality Justine! You were great.
Feel like you are step back in time when you enter the establishment. The food was good and reasonably priced.
I was just driving through the town and wanted something quick to eat on the go. The were having a special "Cuban Sandwich" I had never heard of it before, but that is what the waitress recommended so that's what I ordered with a side of french fries (which I usually throw away). This sandwich was amazing and mouth watering.... I couldn't eat it all because of how big it was. The french fries were also delicious, they had a crispy outer crunch that ... well I can't describe it. This is a MUST stop at if you are ever in that area!!
1/3 of the menu is scratched out with sharpie. Half of the remaining items were out of stock. Took 45 minutes for raw burgers missing toppings to make it to the table and there was no crowd. It’s a cool looking old building so there’s that.
We enjoyed our visit and our waiter...very charming young lad (reminded me of my son). My burger was well done and still very juicy. The Tuscan soup was slightly spicy but tasted deliciously like pizza burger soup. Will visit again.
Tyler & Downing's is unique. It once was a grocery store and meat market. The interior is decorated with memorabilia from when it was a grocery store. It looks very inviting. There is a bar and it appears to be stocked with a variety of Iowa brewed beers and other hard liquor. While there I ordered a 1/2lbs hamburger and the onion straws for dinner. The burger tasted great and so did the onion straws which were more like onion rings. Others in my party ordered the flat bread pizza which were really medium sized pizza's. I sampled several pieces of pizza and found it to taste good. My rating is mainly for the burger. The only issue I had while there is that service was slow. Otherwise I would recommend going there when in Anamosa.
Nice place, service was great but the food was mediocre at best. The shrimp in our shrimp fettuccine alfredo was waaay overcooked, and our friend's rare prime rib was more like medium.
Great luck we found this cafe. Open mike on 2nd Wednesday of the month (6-9), wonderful performers. Our meals were very tasty.
