A great dining experience. Food is exceptional. Every dish we ordered is absolutely amazing. Love how they have both innovation and kept the quality of food. The lamb kabob is a must try. Juicy tender and flavorful. The fried fish is their signature. Crispy skin with juicy meat. Very delicious. Bone marrow is good as always. Rich but not too greasy. Perfect with the pickle side. Service is on point. We arrived before opening hours and they welcomed us immediately as soon as they open the door. Trust me I’ve seen so many rude restaurants purposely make their customers wait outside and just unlock the door without saying anything. Our server explained the menu and made recommendations. Very thoughtful. Each dish was well explained when served.

You can get entrees, small, veggie and appetizer plates and I'm glad they have the small options cause we wanted to try everything. Every dish was delicious, there's a nice selection of wine to pair it with and some other soft drinks including kombucha. The desserts even won over those without a sweet tooth. Service was great, and food came out fast.

Excellent place for a date or special event. Service was impeccable and the menu allowed for mix and match of smaller and larger plates to share. Our server actually recommended dishes that paired well and was mindful to bring out the dishes in pairs that complemented eachother rather than all at once. Though the duck and the gnocchi we tried were both very good and well conceived, it ended up being the veggies dishes that stole the show for us. I really enjoyed the spicy eggplant and my partner's favorite was the honey lavender cauliflower. I would definitely come back, if only to try the fish next time which looked amazing. Reservations recommended. Beer and a very extensive wine list only, no cocktails. Street parking wasn't bad during the week.

Tar & Roses came highly recommended and did not disappoint. There are three distinct seating areas each with a unique vibe; sidewalk (outdoor) seating, confined yet open air courtyard, and indoor by the kitchen and bar. The courtyard seemed most romantic while the indoor space, while we sat, was still a sleek, dimly lit spot fit for any special occasion. The service and the food are, as others have stated, what make this spot a must visit in Santa Monica. The service was warm, enthusiastic, and attentive. Our server curated the meal and paced it perfectly. The passion he had for each dish enhanced the experience; think descriptions about the flavors, preparation, and plating! We ordered all the dishes pictured: - Oxtail Dumplings - Bone Marrow - Octopus Skewers - Squid Ink Pasta with Scallops - Hanger Steak - Black Cod - Grilled Corn - Eggplant This is tapas style so that amount of food was perfect for the two of us. There wasn’t a mediocre dish on our table. The octopus skewers stood out as they were both tender and crispy. Don’t pass on the delicious, smooth eggplant. That black cod was perfectly cooked and spiced to the extent my daughter stole my plate. And the sous vide preparation on the steak turned one of my least favorite cuts into a solid option. Our server insisted we go with crostata which is grilled, topped with smooth ricotta and strawberries, and served with honeycomb ice cream. Again, zero disappointment. Highly recommend for special occasions and anyone looking for a phenomenal culinary experience. Reservations preferred and note the hours (a little limited) reflect their first and final seating each evening.

Tar & Roses came highly recommended by French friends and didn’t disappoint. The food was really good - the fried cauliflower is insane, loved the strawberry pie as well. The staff very professional with great attention to detail. Highly recommended.

Amazing food and wine. I took my mom and we shared the glazed rib appetizer. For the main dish, I had the black cod with lemongrass risotto. Decent portion size and great mix of flavors. My mom had the hanger steak, which was grilled perfectly. The strawberry ricotta crostata was to die for! I plan to come back here again to share the experience with friends.

From the service to the food, everything was great. I can't say I wanted to try everything on the menu, but for the items we did try, they were fantastic. The food was packed with flavour. I've never had anything like this. We ordered the oxtail dumplings, black cod, and the dessert with the strawberries (I forget what it's called).

This was such an exceptional experience. Our server, Sarah, was also so wonderful. Really knowledgeable on the menu food and a long wine list. Gave great recommendations and we loved them. Was perfectly attentive. All the food we had was amazing. Oxtail dumplings Singapore crab cake - has kind of a spicy sweet and sour sauce. Sunchokes - like half artichoke heart half mushroom - savory and delicious. Lamb - wow definitely get this!! The wine list is amazing. They have a relatively limited subset by the glass, but Sarah helped us find some gems. Recommend the T&R Rose of Pinot Noir from Santa Maria and the Syrah.
