We had heard great things about State Street Cafe’s breakfast, and when we found out that they had a tsunami s’mores pancake special AND were recognized as the best pancakes in the state, we had to come visit! We arrived by 8:30 on a Saturday morning figuring we could beat the rush, but they were already very busy! Luckily we managed to get a seat, but by the time we left there was a line of people waiting. Truly a testament to how good State Street is! The pancakes were a sweet tooth lover’s dream, and besides all of the sugary toppings, the pancakes themselves were really good and deserving of their recognition. My fiancé needs protein and something savory for breakfast, so he really enjoyed their southerner special. I took a bite too, and we agreed that the homemade sausage was fantastic. Our waitress was great, and we just loved the classic, hometown breakfast restaurant experience here. I would definitely make the drive to North Haven again for breakfast here!

Be prepared for a great debate if there is an issue with the food. The owner refused to remake my food without charging me for the plate that I took one bite and sent back. The owner also refused to come to the table to explain this absurd policy . Luckily , a really great waitress willingly got the owner to honor my dissatisfaction. However, I will never return . Btw , I ordered the chicken and waffles. Waffle tasted frozen and too hard . The chicken was little over cooked , unseasoned nuggets with an unbalanced spicy maple syrup . So unfortunate that a classical great dish was ruined .

Food was GREAT as usual. Service was subpar. Our waitress and one of the young girls @ the front wasn't too pleasant. I almost confronted the young girl who from the time we walked in, she ignored us and when she checked us out, was equally rude, but I decided against it. Next time, I won't let it slide. I'm spending my money for great food AND service!

Really nice place, definitely worth a try if you haven’t been here before, their breakfast food is top notch, very good. Had a corned beef Ruben this time and was not impressed, the corned beef is very thin and was over cooked, very difficult to chew I would not recommend ordering it.. the staff was friendly and the restaurant is clean

Three words: WORTH. THE. WAIT. WOW. It's everything you should expect in a local diner: neighborly culture, local daily recipes, friendly staff, and a menu for every eater. I recommend the chicken and waffles and the biscuits and gravy. They have the true southerner stamp of approval. My grandma would be proud.

Had the country Benedict and it was great. The sausage gravy was really good. Our server was very nice and seemed to have all of her tables well under control even while the place was incredibly busy.

If you're hungry but don't know exactly what you're in the mood for. Or dinning out in a group and can't decide a specific cuisine. State Street Cafe fulfills those needs. Food is delicious, especially the shrimp n grits.

Really nice food. The proportions were very big. The wait was a little long but it was worth it. The boom boom chicken was really good and tasty along with the fries being amazingly seasoned. We also got other dishes. The tres leches banana French toast which was good, but too sweet and the bread was very mushy. We got other dishes which were good too. The corned beef hash was very salty though. If u want good food and big proportions, I recommend this place for sure!
