I was lucky to wander into this popular local spot. The place was busy, which always attracts my attention when I'm hungry. It was just me, so I sat at the bar where they had the football game on. The bartender was very friendly and helpful with the menu. I ordered grouper fish and chips with bacon grits and a salad. The salad came out in a chilled bowl with homemade ranch dressing. Yum. I was pleasantly surprised by the grits, the texture was perfect, and they were packed with flavor. The fish was not over breaded, the filets were moist, and I enjoyed them with just lemon and both the tarter sauces he gave me to try. A definite must try if you are in New Bern.

Finally, we made it here, and now we're asking ourselves why we didn't come sooner. The dishes we ordered were flavorful. We had the crab pretzel and calamari. The first one is definitely worth it! Be prepared to share as it's a huge portion. The calamari didn't really knock our socks off but again, good portion. For entrees, we had the seafood pot pie (yum!), seafood trifecta, and the bermuda triangle. The crab stuffed mushrooms in the trifecta entree had chunks of crab. Hardly any breading. Service was quick and pleasant. Will definitely come back to try the other menu items.

All of the food was delicious and the portions were good. Rave reviews for the crab dip and crab cake, oysters Rockefeller, shrimp salad, and fried grouper.

Really loved this place! Amazing service from Kessa at the bar. Enjoyed 5 different entree's throughout the week from the Crab Pretzel to the Bacon Cheeseburger to the Fish Wrap (Grouper) you really can't go wrong.👍🎉🤗😁

Pretty good...I had oysters Rockefeller and Shrimp and grits. Oysters were on the small side. I think the kitchen let my shrimp and grits sit too long. Came out lukewarm. Not very spectacular. I was told the seafood pot pie was quite good with shrimp and crab! Jenna did a great job as well.

Good food and fast service. Went in for lunch on a busy Sunday and we’re seated quickly. Service was fast and friendly. Food was hot and delicious. Got the shrimp and oyster basket and the crab cake sandwich. Both were yummy.

After receiving numerous recommendations for this establishment, we decided to give it a try. However, our overall experience left much to be desired. Despite the hype surrounding the place, it failed to live up to our expectations. We started off with the gator bites, which were adequately crispy and chewable. However, they lacked flavor until paired with the accompanying marinara sauce. From there I opted for the spicy chicken sandwich with an additional serving of bacon, accompanied by a side of fries. At first glance, the presentation was enticing. Unfortunately, the fries fell short of expectations, considering the bustling nature of the restaurant. Regrettably, they were served cold and appeared stale. It seemed as though they were either not prepared freshly or had been left sitting on the plate for an extended period while awaiting the sandwich. The chicken sandwich was better than the fries but only just. In conclusion, MJ's did not meet my expectations, and I find it difficult to recommend this establishment. It fails to leave a lasting impression and, based on my experience, I do not anticipate returning.

Definitely a gem in downtown New Bern! The house vinegarette dressing was slightly sweet and awesome, and my shrimp and grits were divine. The seat cushions need some TLC, but they are an after-thought based on the wonderful food and service.
