We were just passing through Sacramento and decided to stop by Fixins and we were not disappointed. The fried chicken was simply amazing but the one that was a hit at our table was the unassuming charred okra. We also loved the shrimp and grits. Will definitely be back if I’m around Sacramento again.

Rolled around lunch time and got seated right away outside. Drinks were a great start to our meal. The catfish nuggets were sooooo good. The juiciest fish fried to perfection and NOT greasy!! I'd come back for this. We also had mac n' cheese, charred okra, greens, oxtail so juicy and falling off the bones, and fried chicken & waffle. It came with blueberry ish flavored butter - YUM! Service - awesome, food - amazing, ambiance - homey and chill. Will be coming back one day!

The food was some of the best I've had in Sacramento. Deep fried deviled eggs👍, fried chicken, perfect, grits, amazing, spicy chicken sandwich, so good. The restaurant is clean and inviting, I'm assuming our server was having an off day. Waited 10 minutes before order was taken, waited another 10 for our drinks and appetizer. She seemed overwhelmed and not very friendly.

Loved the atmosphere. There were so many people there. It was a little loud but nothing too crazy. It was a 45-minute wait when we got there. Thank God I had made reservations 🙌🏾🙌🏾. I let them know we had reservations, and within minutes we were sitting at our table. It took about 10 minutes for our server to take our order due to the crowd. They were moving as fast as they could. My sever looked a little annoyed. I figured that the establishment was a bit understaffed, so i didn't hold it against her. I ordered their shrimp and grits and a side of greens and cornbread. I also had a shot of their Hennessy with a side of cranberry juice 😋 The greens and cornbread were really good. The grits were spicy (not too spicy) and also good. The only thing I didn't like about the grits were the bell peppers and tomatoes (it was in every bite. Too much for me). I didn't know it came like that. In the future, I'll make sure to ask them to leave those out. The yams were also overcooked. My A1 got the smothered chicken with yams and mac and cheese. Her daughter got fries. All in all, it was a feel-good experience. I thought the food could have been better given the price though.

We went here for lunch for the first time. Parking: We found a parking space right away in front of the restaurant Service: Professional and friendly, they were attentive and checked up on us multiple times. Food: Presentation was nice. We had fried deviled eggs for appetizers, which was delicious. For mains we had the smothered chicken with collard greens, charred okra and the fried catfish with fries, mac and cheese. The gravy was a little spicy which was a hit for some of us and miss for others. The breading on the fish and chicken was heavier than I prefer. The fries were crispy, the mac and cheese good. The greens were good in flavor and were more exciting to me than the meat. The okra was a little undercooked but i liked it anyway. Chicken and fish were still juicy. What was a bummer was that everything was way too salty (especially the breading of the catfish) for our taste, so that we couldn't really enjoy the flavors or finish. Banana pudding was tasty, nothing crazy. Overall ok. Since a friend recommended the place we would like to give other dishes a try, since this place seems to be well loved.

Great place. Best items on the menu are the catfish bites and the catfish dinner. Everything was good. My son liked the gumbo. Being from Louisiana, I would not call it gumbo. It was good, but not gumbo. Just had some of the same ingredients. We had the fried chicken. Very good. We had Fried Green Tomatoes. Good. However, next time, we will just get two orders of the catfish bites as they have the same breading and sauce as the FGT but were better.

This easily may be the best soul food I've had so far. I had the fried chicken with Mac & Cheese and Collard greens and everything was so good. Its so good I actually became angry because I'm not local and I'd have to travel across the state to get it. Highly recommend.

Expected better for the price. My hopes weren’t high considering I’m a southerner. The max and cheese was good, the rest I definitely wouldn’t come back for. The candied yams aren’t bad but not worth $6 and very runny. The catfish nuggets could’ve had a little more seasoning. The banana pudding is mostly whipped cream and tastes like the rest is just instant banana pudding with very little bananas in it. I just wouldn’t recommend if you’re actually craving soul food. And I for sure would never pay $10 for another cup of whipped cream. Adding, I didn’t eat the yams bc the juice looked off. I let them sit, idk why yams would have grease in them.
